Pick-ups have undergone a veritable change in recent years – away from pure commercial vehicles with flatbeds, towards lifestyle vehicles that also cut the best figure in front of the opera and in everyday family life. The equipment is now correspondingly high-quality and comprehensive.
This is exemplified by the new Ford Ranger, for which the luxurious “Platinum” version is available for the first time. The new top model in Austria, which costs from 79,468 euros (gross), has a 3.0-liter turbo diesel with six cylinders under the massive hood. The 240 hp diesel engine with a torque of 600 Newton meters is closely linked to the ten-speed automatic; the driving performance is correspondingly superior.
The luxuriously outfitted flatbed truck can hook up trailers weighing up to 3500 kilograms – and the payload is more than one tonne.
Up to five passengers sit on leather seats in the spacious double cabin, enjoy a Bang & Olufsen sound system with ten loudspeakers and look at a fully digital instrument panel with a 12.0-inch touchscreen. Also on board the Ranger Platinum are the “Sync4A” infotainment system and numerous driver assistance systems.
If you can do without it, you can go for the entry-level model Ford Ranger XL, which costs as a double cab from 47,916 euros (gross). With a single cabin, the Ranger XL starts at 44,591 euros.
