Wels’ security officer, Deputy Mayor Gerhard Kroiß (FP), and environmental officer, City Councilor Thomas Rammerstorfer (Die Grünen) are concerned about the upcoming New Year’s Eve banging.
The festival at the turn of the year should not be disturbed by bloody incidents. In the case of misuse and illegal possession of fireworks, the police will step in to confiscate them. In addition, there is a risk of being reported, whereby up to 3600 euros or imprisonment of up to three weeks can be imposed.
As every year, city politicians and the police strongly advise against buying fireworks in other countries. These usually do not undergo any quality controls and are therefore not marked with the CE mark required in Austria. These products often pose a major risk of injury.
Also this year there will be no sale of firecrackers and New Year’s Eve rockets on public land, emphasizes Kroiss. The use of category F2 fireworks is prohibited in the local area.
Environment City Councilor Rammerstorfer refers to the effects of the New Year’s Eve firecrackers on the environment and appeals to the people of Wels to reduce exposure to noise, fine dust and waste or to generally refrain from fireworks.
