Celtic sounds at the 70th police ball in the Brucknerhaus

The motto of this year’s Police Ball in Linz’s Brucknerhaus will already be presented at the opening at 8 p.m. The police students therefore dance to Irish music, played by a delegation from the Upper Austrian police band. The Medley Folk Band delivers traditional Celtic sounds for the show of the dance school Dancing World.

As every year, the goal this year was to involve as many police officers as possible in the ball, says Wolfgang Rittberger-Brandstetter: “In almost all music groups an officer is represented, or at least the son of a police officer,” says the chairman of the police support association of Upper Austria, which organizes the event.

The proceeds from the ball, which OÖN supports as a media partner, flow into the diverse work of the association. “For example, we help colleagues who suddenly fall ill and no longer receive any allowances with financial support,” says Rittberger-Brandstetter. In 2021 alone, the association paid out aid totaling 100,000 euros to Upper Austrian police officers and their families.

In times of rising prices, it is unusual that the entry prices for the anniversary ball have been significantly reduced – 25 euros is the normal price for a ticket. “Our goal is to enable as many people as possible to visit the ball. That’s why we decided to lower the price,” says the chairman.

The ball has had 2,800 to 3,000 guests in recent years, and that is the goal again this year, says Rittberger-Brandstetter: “After the two years of Corona, we are of course particularly pleased that we can celebrate again this year. We didn’t make a decision until September, so the organizational time was shorter than usual. But we put together a great program,” he says.

The tickets for the ball are available in addition to the cop stops operated by the support association, in all Ö-Ticket sales outlets and at the Brucknerhaus cash desk.
