Lula had previously announced 21 of the future ministers.

In addition to Marina Silva as minister of Environment, Lula reported Thursday that Sen. Simone Tebet will be the minister of Planning and Budget.

Both endorsed the leftist leader for his narrow October 30 election victory over the outgoing president, Jair Bolsonaro.

Silva, one of the best-known ecologists in Brazilpreviously held the same ministerial position for five years, during Lula’s first presidential term, overseeing a significant decline in deforestation.

Now you will have to tackle the same task, helping Lula to fulfill a campaign promise after the deforestation of the amazon peaked at 15 years under Bolsonarowho relaxed environmental protections during his term in office.

Tebet supported Lula after abandoning his own presidential candidacy when it failed to reach the second round and helped him move closer to the center by securing moderate votes.

Investors welcome his appointment, since he supported all the major economic reforms approved by the Congress in recent years
