Two become one: At the beginning of the new year, the two departments “Linz Culture Projects” and “Linz Culture Funding” will be merged into the new “Linz Culture” department in the Linz City Council. This is assigned to the Culture and Education division under Cultural Director Julius Stieber. In addition to events, projects, art and culture funding, the Salzamt studio is also the responsibility of “Linz Kultur”.
The overall management of the new department will be held by Gerda Forstner, her team has a total of 13 employees. She is familiar with the terrain: Forstner has headed the Linz Culture Project department since 2003, Peter Leisch, who headed the City of Linz’s cultural promotion department for more than 25 years, will retire at the end of 2022.
“The new Linz Culture department designs, develops and promotes art and culture in the state capital in line with the Linz culture development plan. Its task is to ensure cultural and artistic diversity in the city by, on the one hand, handling subsidies in all artistic fields and to independent cultural initiatives and, on the other hand, promoting concepts and discourses on urban cultural development,” says City Councilor for Culture Doris Lang-Mayerhofer (VP). .
For Municipal Director Ulrike Huemer, the merging of the areas into one department will “further optimize and intensify the interweaving of tasks, the use of resources and the coordination of measures for the orientation of the city’s cultural strategy”.
