The news that groundwater samples in Leonding had been found to be contaminated with industrial chemicals caused great uncertainty. As reported, the search for the cause by the state’s water management department is ongoing.
The district of Staudach and the wells of two smaller water cooperatives in Harterfeld, possibly also the districts of Jetzing and Felling, are certainly affected, the municipality informs online. The local residents are called upon to refrain from using the water from the wells, the Linz AG connections are not affected.

Chemicals in Leondinger groundwater: Further samples taken
The problem can only be solved in the medium term by connecting the houses to the local water supply, according to the town hall. “The area-wide connection to the Linz AG network would be a simple solution. However, that would mean that there would be complete dependence on just one water supply in the region,” City Councilor Sven Schwerer (Greens) now points out. In addition, the associated costs would mean an additional financial burden for those affected.
Schwerer is in favor of keeping several domestic wells and water cooperatives: “In the event of a crisis, they could provide our valuable drinking water. They also ensure that pollutants are monitored in Leonding.”
