Ball dresses: “It can be a bit more”
“You can tell from the people that they want to make themselves really beautiful again,” says Christine Rührlinger from “Hänsel and Gretel” in Gunskirchen. Women value elegance and prefer to buy long dresses. “They obviously enjoy dressing more formally, celebrating a special occasion with a special attire.”

As for the trends, the robes are very colorful this year. “Also in ‘Viva Magenta’, the color of the year 2023. It’s a very warm, feminine tone that suits many women very well,” says Christine Rührlinger. In general, ball gowns are more lavish again.
“Not in the form of hoop skirts or orgies of tulle. What is meant is that they all have something special. Some have a train, others have an asymmetrical cut. Some are decorated with pearls, others with flowers, feathers or embroidery,” says Rührlinger. What is also new is that many women – including young people – prefer long sleeves. “It looks elegant. A kind of cape, i.e. a throw, is also very popular with the ladies.”
And last but not least, a jumpsuit, i.e. a one-piece overall, is one of the big trends this festival season.
Hairstyles are curly and loose
“Perfectly styled and accurately blow-dried – those days are over,” says Barbara Forstner, salon manager at Haircutters in the Promenaden Galerien in Linz. “On the contrary: Festive hairstyles are curly and light this year.” People like to wear their hair half open, i.e. only partially pinned up in a loose bun. In general, curls are very popular in 2023. On the other hand, you remain more reserved when it comes to hair accessories. Glitter is reserved for dresses, shoes and accessories this season.

Make-up for the “glow”
Naturalness is important to women, even when it comes to evening make-up, says Mona Eder from Nagele and Strubell in Linz. For a beautiful complexion, she recommends good-covering make-up.
Red is the classic for lips, and coral tones are also trendy.
Especially nice: make the skin glow, i.e. give it a nice “glow”. “You can do this with a highlighter that you apply to the areas where the light hits – such as the nose or cheekbones.” And another tip from the professional: always apply face cream beforehand: “It makes a big difference. The skin is well nourished, does not feel tight and simply looks smoother and more even.”
