A 14-year-old from the Braunau district stole his parents’ car key on Saturday night and drove away in his car. At around 4:55 a.m., the boy caused a traffic accident, suffering a minor injury: he veered off to the left on a straight lane and crashed head-on into the fence of the Schalchen tennis club.
The 14-year-old left the scene of the accident without notifying the police, called a friend and told him about the accident. The friend then informed the parents of the 14-year-old, and they drove to the scene of the accident, but could not find the son. After more than an hour of searching for their son, the parents called the police. The officials were able to find the 14-year-old at 6:36 a.m. at the bus station in Mattighofen, slightly injured. The rescue was called, but the boy did not want to go to the hospital and signed a lapel.
The car was totaled. Damage to the fence was currently unknown. A breathalyser test was negative.
The 14-year-old declined to comment on how the accident happened. He stated that he had not driven a car and had not caused an accident – but he had the car key with him. He is reported to the Braunau district authority and the Ried public prosecutor’s office.
