Gary McKee, 53, completed his 365th marathon of the year on Saturday in wet weather near his home in Cleator Moor, North West England, to a crowd of fans cheering him on.
A few hours later he also reached his fundraising goal. On New Year’s Eve he raised the sum of £1million (€1.13million) for the Macmillan Cancer Support Foundation. “WOW,” McKee commented on Twitter.

It wasn’t the Brit’s first such campaign for charities – he’d climbed Kilimanjaro and flown over Brazil to raise funds. In 2017 he ran 100 marathons in 100 days, in 2021 110 marathons in 110 days – and apparently got a taste for it.
In his daily marathons in 2022, McKee covered 15,330 kilometers and wore out 22 pairs of running shoes. On the website runnersworld.com he emphasizes that he is not interested in having his achievement recognized as a record: “What counts are not records, but helping people.”
