Benedict XVI  will be laid out in St. Peter’s Basilica from today

From 9 a.m. people can say goodbye to the Bavarian-born pontiff. The funeral service on St. Peter’s Square and then the burial in St. Peter’s Basilica are planned for Thursday. Joseph Ratzinger died at the Vatican on Saturday at the age of 95. Benedict XVI was head of the Catholic Church from 2005 to 2013 before causing a sensation with his resignation. He then lived in the Mater Ecclesiae monastery in the Vatican Gardens, in whose chapel he lay in state on Sunday.
