Missing woman and child found dead in Czech Giant Mountains

Members of the mountain rescue service discovered the two lifeless on Monday in the Rosenberg area, around three kilometers north of the popular winter sports resort of Pec pod Snezkou, the police said. More than 150 helpers took part in the search in the impassable and snowy terrain, and emergency services also came from neighboring Poland.

The exact cause of death is now to be determined. The owner of a pension had reported the 40-year-old Czech woman and her child missing after the two had not returned from a hike. They are said to have had a sled with them.

The winter sports resort of Pec pod Snezkou (Petzer) is located in the northeast of the Czech Republic, almost 70 kilometers east of the German border town of Zittau. A cable car leads from here to the Schneekoppe (Snezka), the highest point in the Giant Mountains.
