Russia acknowledged 63 casualties in a deadly Ukrainian attack

The Russian army, which rarely divulges its casualties, had never reported so many losses in a single attack.

According to the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, who did not specify any date of the event, “four missiles” hit “a temporary deployment center” of the Russian army in Makiivka, in the Donetsk region.

Ukrainian media published photos and videos of the place where the Russian soldiers were allegedly located.

Alexander Sladkov, a war correspondent for Russia’s Rossiya television channel, reported that the attack was launched by kyiv forces against the Russian “military quarters” in Makiivka.

The strike at the base was launched at midnight, while Russian soldiers were at the table to celebrate the New Year, the Ansa news agency reported.

The Russian Ministry specified that it was an attack with HIMARS rocket launchers, a type of weapon delivered by the United States to Ukraine and stated that its forces shot down two of the six missiles. “Full assistance and support is being given to the families,” he said.

The number of 400 deaths reported by the kyiv armed forces had not yet been verified and, although the pro-Russian authorities in that Ukrainian region acknowledged the existence of victims, they did not confirm those provided by kyiv, the BBC news channel reported.
