More than 200 curious people didn’t want to miss the spectacle on New Year’s Day. Under the motto “Cold as Ice”, the JVP Almtal had invited to ice bathing in the bathing pond in St. Konrad. There was no sign of the ice due to the mild temperatures – but the frosty water temperature (7.6 degrees Celsius) made the whole thing a test of courage.
Some daredevils could not wait for the official starting signal at 3 p.m. and showed their performances in advance. Whether it was a bowling ball, an ass bomb or a leisurely wade into the lake – everything was allowed, everything earned applause.
The highlight was the joint jump into the water, which around 20 participants did not want to miss. Among them was Mayor Herbert Schönberger (ÖVP). With punch, beer and meat loaf, those who were refreshed then regained their energy.
Florian Schönberger, chairman of the JVP St. Konrad, has already announced that the New Year’s competition in St. Konrad will be repeated next year.
