211,449 main residences: Linz continues to grow

The trend was indicated early on in the past year and was confirmed until the end. Linz is getting bigger in relation to its inhabitants. With an increase of 2759 people who have moved their main residence to Linz, the city has exactly 211,449 inhabitants as of January 1, 2023. The local register also lists 20,747 secondary residences in Linz.

In addition to the influx, the significant increase in the population compared to the Corona years is also due to the fact that there were more births again. 2099 babies were born in Linz last year, but 2162 deaths were also registered. According to Mayor Klaus Luger, the growth is essentially related to the economic situation in Linz. But the Ukraine war also had an impact on this, as Ukrainian refugees accounted for 40 percent of the immigration.
