Investigations are being carried out on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm against unknown perpetrators. An 18-year-old was killed in the ball bomb explosion and a peer is in mortal danger. The public prosecutor’s office has ordered an autopsy and is also awaiting the results of the police report.
According to the police, several interrogations were still pending on Tuesday. The origin of the ball bombs used in Ternitz was therefore not yet fully clarified. These were category F4 fireworks. One ignited too early and fatally injured the 18-year-old.
A 16-year-old was also in mortal danger on Tuesday after a firecracker accident on New Year’s Eve in Lichtenau in the Waldviertel (Krems district). The teenager bought the F4 category firecracker used illegally in the Czech Republic in November.
