There is great sadness in Lenzing: The diocese announced this morning that Johann Ortner died unexpectedly on Tuesday at the age of 60. He had been pastor of Lenzing for 14 years.
Johann Ortner was born on January 26, 1962 in Uttendorf-Helpfau (Braunau district). After graduating from the Realgymnasium in Braunau, he entered the seminary in Linz in 1981 and was ordained a priest in 1988 in the Mariendom in Linz.
At first, Ortner was a cooperator in Mondsee for five years and parish administrator in Ottnang am Hausruck for one year. A sabbatical year followed and then (1995) the priest became curate in Steyr-Ennsleite and from 1997 cooperator in Garsten.
In 2003, Johann Ortner came to the parish of Langholzfeld as a parish moderator. In 2008 he was appointed pastor of Lenzing and also appointed pastor of Aurach am Hongar (2015) and in Timelkam (2019).
In addition to pastoral care, Johann Ortner was a hospital chaplain in Steyr and with the Sisters of Mercy in Linz. He was also the clergyman of the professional association of parochial housekeepers in the Diocese of Linz and Austria.

- Lenzing parish church: on Saturday, January 14, 6 p.m
- Aurach am Hongar parish church: on Wednesday, January 18, 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21 at 10 a.m. in the parish church of Lenzing. The Office of the Dead will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. After the requiem, the urn is buried in the parish cemetery in Lenzing.
