Second place for Feller in the Garmisch Slalom – Kristoffersen won

Second place for Feller in the Garmisch Slalom – Kristoffersen won

The Norwegian prevailed on Wednesday with a huge lead of 1.22 seconds over Manuel Feller from Tyrol, but benefited from his starting number one. Kristoffersen’s 29th victory was the first he achieved with Marcel Hirscher’s Van Deer-Red Bull Sports ski brand. Third was Frenchman Clement Noel.

Fabio Gstrein also made it into the top ten in ninth place, the other Austrians remained below their potential with almost spring-like conditions and a corresponding slope. Michael Matt finished 16th, Marco Schwarz was only 23rd after a mistake in the second round. Vice World Champion Adrian Pertl and Olympic silver medalist Johannes Strolz were eliminated. For Strolz from Vorarlberg it was the third failure in the third slalom this alpine winter.

Especially in the first run, a downright classic start number race took place. The slope, which was treated with salt because of the mild temperatures, quickly gave way after Kristoffersen’s first descent and presented itself as soft and brittle. With Linus Straßer (+0.71) and Noel (+0.93) only two runners were less than a second behind, fourth-placed Feller was already 1.33 behind.

Van Deer was founded in 2021 and went on sale in the winter of that year with a first edition of around 1,500 pairs of skis. The Brit Charlie Raposo was the first World Cup athlete that Hirscher won for his project. His formerly stubborn competitor Kristoffersen soon followed, resigning from Rossignol after the 2021/22 season. Last summer, Red Bull also acquired a 50 percent stake in Van Deer. As a result, production could be increased many times over.
