The 22-year-old Ukrainian was driving his powerful vehicle on the A1 in the direction of Vienna on Wednesday morning. In the Ansfelden area, his car reached a speed of up to 200 km/h several times. A patrol from the state traffic department took up the night drive and stopped the driver at the Linz node.

The 22-year-old is reported for several violations, the police said on Wednesday evening. A security deposit was collected and the driver’s license was taken on site. When asked why he was driving so fast, the young man said he was in a hurry.

At the end of December, a speeder was stopped at 225 km/h on the western autobahn. He had almost two parts per thousand alcohol in his blood – the OÖN reported.

Speeders face stricter penalties

Speeders like the young man face stricter penalties in the future. The Ministry of Transport sent a corresponding amendment to the law at the beginning of December for a six-week assessment. In the future, vehicles owned by speeders will be confiscated and subsequently auctioned off, for example if the speed limit outside the local area is exceeded by more than 70 km/h.
