With 1018 births in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Klinikum Steyr last year, 492 girls and 526 boys saw the light of day. A particularly large number of births were recorded in October (over 100 births). The majority (75 percent) of babies were born “spontaneously”. From the 36th to the 38th week of pregnancy, during a one-day inpatient stay, the babies are turned with an “external turn” into a position with their heads towards the mother’s pelvis. “During this time, the heart rate of the unborn child is regularly monitored,” says Senior Physician Georg Gressenberger, a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics.
Your partner or family member may be present during the turn. “We prepare the mother’s tummy with fragrant, warm oils from midwifery teaching. During the turning itself, we never go into the pain area. If the turning doesn’t work, we stop the process,” says the experienced gynaecologist. If the rotation is successful, there is often nothing standing in the way of a spontaneous birth and that is a success for the obstetrics team.
511 babies, 231 girls and 280 boys, were born last year at the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Klinikum Kirchdorf. A particularly large number of deliveries were recorded in August (56 children). Five babies were born on the busiest days. In order to be able to provide expectant mothers with the best possible care in the years to come, the entire delivery room area will be renovated and remodeled this year. Expectant mothers can be cared for at any time despite the renovation. Three new delivery room areas are planned, each with two birthing tubs and one birthing bed. “In addition, a walkable roof terrace is planned for the delivery room area,” says Primarius Josef Hager, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
