China deemed WHO impartial after criticism of its Covid-19 data

The director of emergencies of the WHO, michael ryantold reporters on Wednesday that official statistics did not reflect the real impact of the virus in the country, faced with a increase in infections after the dismantling in December of the covid zero strategy.

China responded Thursday that it “maintained close cooperation with the WHO” and had “always shared relevant information and data with the international community, in an open and transparent attitude.”

“According to a incomplete balance sheetthere have been around 60 technical exchanges between the two sides since the coronavirus was first detected, on issues including disease prevention and control, treatment, research and vaccine development and tracing the origin of the virus,” Mao Ning said.

The official balance at the national level shows only 23 dead from coronavirus since Decemberafter the authorities drastically narrowed the criteria for computing a death to SARS-CoV-2.

About a dozen countries have imposed health test for passengers from China alleging in several cases the little transparency of the Asian country about the outbreak data.

China criticized this move as “unacceptable”.
