Update now!
08:13 am: Martin Rossgatterer lines up behind Neubauer 15.2 seconds behind Fourmaux.
8:12 a.m.: Neubauer finishes 13.7 seconds behind. So that’s a change of leadership. Fourmaux and Wagner pass Salzburg overall.
08:11 am: “Tires measure at temperature, it doesn’t feel bad,” you can hear from Michael Lengauer’s onboard recording.
08:10 am: Simon Wagner is 1.4 seconds behind Fourmaux at the finish of the stage.
08:09 am: Adrien Fourmaux is on target. He sets the first time with 8:13.1. “I could have pushed a little more, but we’ll see what the time is worth,” says the World Championship driver.
08:08 am: Raimund Baumschlager and Michael Lengauer are on the track.

08:06: Johannes Keferböck starts after Kris Rosenberger and Martin Rossgatterer.
08:04: Simon Wagner comes down the Pierbach bends. Cheers from the fans. No problems with the slicks.
08:03: Hermann Neubauer is also on the way!
08:02: Gregoire Munster may have had problems on the approach and will not be at the start. Simon Wagner starts second.
08:00: Here we go! The church bells are ringing in Freistadt, and Adrien Fourmaux starts on the track in Pierbach.
07:55 am: It starts in Pierbach in five minutes. The stage is 13.04 kilometers long, making it the second longest of the rally. The king’s test is tomorrow in Windhaag, which is 15 kilometers long, will be driven twice and will ultimately bring bonus points as a power stage.

07:45 am: The first photos reach us from Pierbach: next to the main road, the fans’ cars are parked for up to six kilometers. There are again an insane number of rally fans in the Pierbach-S on the Höfnerberg.
07:30 am: Yesterday’s first test can be read in yesterday’s live ticker:

07:25 am: We also wanted to get to the bottom of why Ernst Haneder was given a one-minute penalty. Officially, he said, “That’s a past story,” which he didn’t want to elaborate on. It is rumored that he was doing test drives on the special stages after the official time and was caught doing it. But nobody wanted to confirm that.
07:20 am: The reason why Simon Wagner came back from the first special stage a bit upset yesterday is a broken cable. The line for the intercom between the driver and front passenger was broken, meaning that Wagner had no contact with his co-pilot Gerald Winter. New stage, slippery conditions (with the semi-slicks they drove) and no contact with the co-driver – there are better ideas for a driver.
07:15 am: According to our information, ice is currently only to be feared in part. That’s why many drivers chose the semi-slick, which is significantly faster in normal driving conditions than the winter tires. Spikes are not used today.
07:10 am: Adrien Fourmaux has made his way to Pierbach. He will be the first to cross the track in exactly one hour.
07:00: Most pilots put on the semi-slick tires. Only Michael Lengauer plays it safe and uses winter tires today. Yesterday he was the only top driver who used winter tires.
06:50 am: We made our way through the paddock and take a few voices and a few pictures with us. Promised.
06:45 am: Yesterday we bumped into the rally doc, Helmuth Czekal. He thinks Simon Wagner is most likely to win. “He drives with the most brains”.
06:35 am: Temperatures are low – there will certainly be a spot or two that will be icy. That’s why the drivers’ ice spies have been sent out. In the case of Michael Lengauer, this is none other than Andreas Aigner, who once again honors the January rally. In 2008, the Styrian won the Production WRC.
06:30 am: Good morning! The early bird catches the worm – and that’s why we’re already there in Freistadt to see what’s going on in the paddock.
