After three years, Brazil returns to CELAC

The Bolsonaro administration had eliminated in 2020 the integration of the regional intergovernmental mechanism during his tenure to avoid a greater “prominence of non-democratic regimes like those of Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua”.

With the new wave of leftist presidentswhich replaces a conservative stage in Latin America, the new Brazilian mandate highlights the importance of the organization: “The return of Brazil to the Latin American community of States is an essential step for the recomposition of our diplomatic patrimony and for the full reintegration of the country in the international community”.

What is CELAC?

The block brings together 33 countries belonging to Latin America and the Caribbean and it was created in 2010, in the midst of a context of the regional left and presidents such as Lula Da Silva in Brazil, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in Argentina and Hugo Chávez in Venezuela.

It is an integration mechanism that aims to respond to the need to make efforts among the States of Latin America and the Caribbean in order to advance unity and political, economic, social and cultural integration.

In addition, it seeks to increase social well-being, quality of life, economic growth in the region, and promoting independent and sustainable development.
