After – as reported – an 18-year-old died from a ball bomb that was detonated too early, according to the police, there is now a person of the same age at the State Hospital in Wiener Neustadt succumbed to his injuries. Two other people were injured in the incident.
Several locals detonated ball bombs shortly before 0.30 a.m. on New Year’s Eve in a field in St. Johann am Steinfelde, a cadastral municipality of Ternitz. The dead person is likely to have been in the immediate vicinity of the firecracker in the explosion, a peer was critically injured and flown to a Graz hospital by the emergency helicopter.
A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were taken to the Wiener Neustadt State Hospital with injuries. The older of the two has now succumbed to his injuries, the executive said on Saturday. The public prosecutor’s office in Wiener Neustadt began investigations on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide and negligent bodily harm against unknown perpetrators.
