Christmas holidays end with hours of traffic jams

Drivers needed the most patience on the Fern Pass route (B179) towards Germany. Around 11 a.m., around 1.5 hours were lost on the approximately 34-kilometer route between Nassereith and Reutte. Before the Lermooser tunnel traffic in the direction of Füssen was only channeled through in blocks from around 8.30 a.m. Also in Zillertal the tin columns, especially out of the valley, sometimes only made progress at walking pace or not at all.

According to the ARBÖ, block handling also took place in front of the Brettfall tunnel from around 8.30 a.m. Around five kilometers of traffic jams with up to 30 minutes more travel time had to be taken by drivers on the Arlberg expressway (S16) towards Arlberg between Pettneu and St. Anton. Skiers traveling by vehicle towards Kitzbuehel according to ARBÖ, took around 15 to 20 minutes longer on the Pass Thurn road (B161) from Aurach at 10.30 a.m. Similar delays were also reported on the Eibergstraße (B173) between Söll and Kufstein. The reason for also up to 15 minutes time delay on the Reschen federal road (B180) in the direction of Landeck between Ried and Prutz was a construction site in addition to tourist traffic.

In Salzburg an accident and tourist traffic on the Tauernautobahn (A10) caused traffic jams that stretched for kilometers. At around 10 a.m., an accident involving several vehicles occurred on the road towards the state capital between Werfen and Pass Lueg in front of the Zetzenberg tunnel. Tin columns with a very slow progress were also on the Lofer street (B311) observed.

Traffic jams also at the borders

Patience was also required at the borders. Before the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border crossing on the Inntal autobahn (A12), it takes up to 20 minutes longer in the direction of Germany. “Between 10 and 15 minutes “please wait” was the message before the Walserberg border on the Westautobahn (A1) in the direction of Bavaria,” said ARBÖ traffic expert Thomas Haider on Saturday afternoon.
