Fresh snow expected in the mountains and rain in the lowlands

That’s what Geosphere Austria predicts on Sunday. With the cold front from the west and a low over northern Italy, it rained in many parts of the country on Monday, the longest in the south and south-east. Although the precipitation is decreasing from the west, the shower activity picks up again later. The snow line drops to around 1,000 to 800 meters above sea level. The wind blows from the south in the far east at first, but generally turns quickly to west to north-west and then blows briskly at times. Depending on the wind, the early temperatures are zero to eight degrees, during the day there is hardly any warming and therefore maximum values ​​of three to ten degrees.

The influence of disturbances was still present on Tuesday and the clouds are building up on the north side of the Alps with the north-westerly high-level current. There, as well as in general in the north, there will be rain and snow showers. The snow line is usually between 500 and 800 meters above sea level. In the course of the afternoon, the sunny spells become more frequent. Farther east and south, the chances of sunny phases are more favorable from the start, even if there are still a few patches of cloud from time to time. The wind will blow moderately to briskly, along the Tauern region and on the eastern edge of the Alps also strongly, from west to north-west. The morning temperatures are between minus three and plus six degrees, the maximum daily temperatures between three and ten degrees.

Risk of black ice in the north on Wednesday

In rapid succession, Atlantic fault zones reached Austria from the west on Wednesday. The passage of a weak warm front will already bring numerous cloud fields early in the morning, especially in the eastern half. Rain is only present in places in the north, here there is a risk of black ice. In the course of the day, it will temporarily loosen up a little in the east, while the cloud fields of the next cold front will appear from the west. From the late afternoon, widespread rain will spread from the northwest. The snow line is initially between 1,500 and 2,000 meters, but drops to around 1,000 meters at night. The wind will be weak to moderate from southeast to west, with morning temperatures of minus five to plus four degrees and maximum daily temperatures of four to eleven degrees.

The further prospects

Thursday morning will be overcast in many places and it will often rain. In the course of the day, there will be an alternation of sun and clouds from the west, but it will remain rather unstable with passing showers, especially on the north side of the Alps. In the south, on the other hand, the weather will be consistently sunny. The snow line is between 700 and 1,000 meters. The wind blows moderately to briskly from the west, only in the south it remains weak. The morning temperatures will be minus two to plus five degrees, the maximum daily temperatures four to nine degrees.

With the passage of the next fault zone, it rains widely on Friday. Only in the south can it loosen up in between. The snow line rises to 1,200 to 1,600 meters above sea level. The wind will blow moderately from the west, with morning temperatures of minus five to plus four degrees and maximum daily temperatures of four to nine degrees.
