Tennis: Djokovic confirmed form for Melbourne with Adelaide title

The 35-year-old Serb won his 92nd title on the ATP tour in Adelaide on Sunday. He prevailed in the high-class final against the American Sebastian Korda after 3:09 hours with 6:7(8),7:6(3),6:4. The “Djoker” fended off a match ball in the second set when the score was 5:6.

In the semifinals, the longtime number one in the world had already defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev. It’s a special return to Australia for Djokovic. A year ago he had to leave the country before his first game at the Australian Open due to his lack of vaccination against the corona virus. His visa had previously been canceled and an entry ban of three years imposed. The entry ban has now been lifted by the Australian authorities.

Now Djokovic wants to win his tenth title at the Australian Open (most recently in 2021) and draw level with Rafael Nadal (ESP) with the 22nd major title.
