Microsleep: Injured alcohol driver (38) committed a driver’s escape after an accident

When the police officers arrived at the scene of the accident in the village of Katzbach (Krenglbach municipality), they found a badly damaged vehicle in the middle of the road, but there was no trace of the accident driver. However, his work colleague informed the officials that the 38-year-old had gone in the direction of the city of Wels, where he could also be found after about an hour.

The Cameroonian citizen from Linz was slightly injured in the accident and stated that he had lost control of his vehicle because of microsleep. He drove right over an embankment into the adjacent field and then back onto the road. An alcohol test carried out resulted in a value of 1.14 per thousand. The man’s driver’s license was provisionally confiscated.
