Wiener Linien had been convicted of discrimination when buying semester tickets. A card for students whose main place of residence is outside of Vienna recently cost 150 euros, for residents 75 euros. Victims then complained.
Now all students under 26 can buy the semester ticket online for 75 euros. If you buy it at a ticket office, 78 euros will be charged, as announced on Monday. Wiener Linien emphasized that the legal interpretation in this matter was ambiguous. There had also been decisions according to which no unequal treatment was to be established.
In September 2022, however, the Vienna Regional Court decided the opposite. Further proceedings in this case are currently underway. At the same time, Wiener Linien asked for your understanding that no further information on the subject of refunds can be given due to these court proceedings. “As soon as there is clarification in this regard, the transport company will inform you about the further steps,” it said.
