After two years without an indoor tournament, the Steyr Indoor Cup made a comeback in the Stadthalle on Sunday. At the traditional kick with the gang, host and organizer SK Amateure Steyr did not distribute any gifts and collected both the title of Steyr city champion in indoor football and the trophy for victory in the indoor cup. As an encore, Mehmetemin Güngör secured the top scorer’s trophy with eight goals.
It was particularly exciting in the group games for the Steyr city championship title. The SK forwards, who competed with the 1b team, suffered a defeat against Bewegungs Steyr right at the start. “But then we gradually improved,” says assistant coach Alexander Danninger, who was consistently satisfied with his young team as the tournament progressed. First, the red-whites defeated their own U18s, who competed as ATSV Steyr, in a “stable duel” and shortly afterwards inflicted the only defeat in a direct duel on hosts SK Amateure. Since the Lauberleitner were unscathed in all other games, the better goal difference finally decided for the team of player-coach Serhat Sari.
Steyrers keep the upper hand
In the second group, Dietach and Garsten qualified for the semifinals. In these, however, it was the end of the line for both teams. While amateurs narrowly defeated Union Dietach 1-0, the red-whites celebrated a 4-1 win over Garsten.
In the final, the blue and whites clearly had the upper hand 3-0 and thus also took revenge for the defeat in the group games. “Amateure deserved to win. My boys were a bit tired at the end,” said Danninger.
The organizers were not only happy about the tournament victory, but also about a full spectator stand in the town hall. At the tournament, Reinhard “Conny” Konrad received the SK Amateurs’ Player of the Century award. The 67-year-old was unable to attend the 100-year celebration in the fall.
