The Hollywood remake of the successful Swedish film “A Man Named Ove” will be released in Austrian cinemas at the beginning of February. Adapted in Sweden in 2015, Fredrik Backman’s best-selling novel follows a grumpy, suicidal widower (played by Tom Hanks in the remake) who finds his way back to life through meeting new neighbors. The tragic comedy won many awards and was nominated for a foreign Oscar in 2017.
Ove became Otto
In the English language version, Ove is now called Otto and the film is titled “A Man Called Otto”. In addition to the two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, US actress Rachel Keller (“Legion”) and the Mexican actors Mariana Treviño (“Overboard”) and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (“The Magnificent Seven”) are also part of the party. Directed by Marc Forster (52, “Monster’s Ball”, “Quantum of Solace”).
The US premiere took place in New York on Monday evening. An important supporting actor could not be missing: cat “Smeagol” posed with Hanks on the red carpet for the photographers. As for the four-legged co-star’s biggest challenge during filming, animal trainer Brittany Long revealed in an interview: “The hardest part was that we had to shoot a lot of the scenes outside during the very, very cold winter months.” How Felltiger Smeagol does on the screen, local film fans can see for themselves from February 3rd in the cinema
