From November 25, 2022 to January 6, 2023, a total of 1.3 million Christmas and New Year’s greetings from all over the world were provided with the coveted special postmark “Über Postamt Christkindl”. For the first time since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic, groups of guests came from abroad, some from overseas.
For the past season, Swiss Post has carried out a redesign: the Christmas-decorated hut outside the Christkindl-Wirt – in the immediate vicinity of the Christkindl Church, which had served as a makeshift solution for the past two years – was permanently set up as a Christmas workshop for Swiss Post employees . Letters will also be stamped here in the future and replies from the Christkind will be sent all over the world.
Children from all over the world have been sending letters to the Christkindl post office for decades, this season there were more than 12,300. The Swiss Post team answered all letters and requests – on behalf of the Christ child, of course. The children were sent German or English answer cards.
While in the past it was mostly children’s letters from abroad, for example from Asia, that ended up in Christkindl, around two thirds of children’s letters now come from Austria. Unlike in previous years, Corona hardly played a role in the letters this year. Instead of a “Corona vacuum cleaner”, toys were again at the top of the children’s wish lists this year.
