City of Peuerbach wants out of gas

Many municipal buildings in Peuerbach, including the school center, town hall, fire station and musicians’ home, are still heated with gas. If everything goes according to plan, a new local heating plant should be connected to the grid at the start of the heating season in autumn 2023, to which the municipal buildings will be connected. It is being built by the Peuerbach-based company Baumeister Humer on their property next to the town hall, where there is currently a hall.

“We have to do something so that we can get out of the gas quickly. If that’s the case, we have to take the opportunity,” says Mayor Roland Schauer (citizens’ list). The city is being helped financially by the municipal billion from the federal government, which is intended for the switch to renewable energies, energy efficiency and municipal projects. Peuerbach will receive around 485,000 euros from this pot. “We can use half of that for the conversion to biomass, for example for the lines, connection costs and necessary renovation work in the school,” says Schauer.

In addition, the purchase of an emergency generator is planned as a precautionary measure against a blackout. In the event of a large-scale power failure, this would supply the school premises, where many people can be accommodated in the event of an emergency, with energy.
