As already announced last week, since yesterday poultry must be kept in closed or at least roofed stables in regions that have been designated as “areas with a greatly increased risk of avian influenza” according to the regulation. This stable requirement applies to all farms and hobby farms with 50 or more animals.
Poultry farms with fewer than 50 animals are exempt from the stall obligation, provided ducks and geese are kept separately from other poultry and it is ensured that poultry is protected from contact with wild birds – for example by nets or roofs – and the feeding and watering of the animals only takes place in the stable or under a shelter, i.e. not outdoors. Important for private small and hobby owners: Every poultry farm must be reported to the responsible district authority or to the veterinary information system, even if there are only a few animals.
The entire district of Vöcklabruck and in the district of Gmunden the municipalities of Altmünster, Ebensee, Gmunden, Grünau, Gschwandt, Kirchham, Laakirchen, Ohlsdorf, Pinsdorf, Roitham, St. Konrad, St. Wolfgang, Traunkirchen, Scharnstein and Vorchdorf are considered areas with an increased risk.
