Linz wants to give “no chance to sexism”.

The city of Linz is the second Austrian city to take part in the EU-wide “JUMP” campaign. This wants to show how strongly clichés are still anchored in our society, especially in everyday work.

“Sexism has no place in an open, modern and equal society. And yet we still encounter him every day and everywhere – whether in media and culture, in advertising, at work, but also in other areas,” says Mayor Klaus Luger (SP).

For women’s councilor Eva Schobesberger (Greens), the transition from sexism to sexual violence is a smooth one. “This concerns us all. The campaign’s subjects show where unequal treatment between women and men still exists.”

The campaign’s visuals, entitled Free Your Organization from Sexism, are provided by JUMP, a Brussels-based organization dedicated to addressing gender equality issues across the continent. The awareness-raising campaign “Don’t give sexism a chance!” is being implemented by the city’s women’s office together with the city’s communication department.

The ÖVP welcomes the new campaign and sees one of their demands implemented. “It is important and right that the sensitivity to sexism and discrimination should be raised. Sexism and discrimination have no place in Linz. The initiative is also the implementation of our application from April. It is sad that we still have to talk about these problems in 2023, so it is all the more important that efforts to increase sensitivity are now being intensified,” says municipal councilor Theresa Ganhör.
