Mine accident in the Czech Republic: one dead and several injured

Several other people were injured, the police said on Thursday. A tremor is said to have occurred in the CSM-Süd hard coal mine beforehand. The incident occurred during mining work at a depth of around 1,100 meters. A commission of inquiry was set up to determine the exact cause.

Against the background of high energy prices, the Czech government has extended hard coal mining until at least the end of 2025. He was originally supposed to be hired last year. The development company OKD has been fully state-owned again since 2018 after an earlier privatization. The CSM-Süd mine is not far from the industrial town of Karvina, around 300 kilometers east of Prague.
