The decision was made before the high risk of the terminal being stormed by thousands of protesters who march through this Andean city on Thursday, after an attempt the day before.
During the protests on Wednesday, hundreds of residents, many peasants, tried to reach the airport during a demonstration to demand the departure of the President.
Police responded by shooting tear gas to disperse the crowd. The protest ended leaving a peasant leader killed and more than 50 woundedincluding 19 police officers, according to the Ombudsman’s Office.
is the airport closed for second time since protests erupted after the arrest of Pedro Castillo a little over a month ago, which so far has left at least 42 dead. In December, the air terminal was not operating for five days.
