Wels continues to grow: More than 1000 new residents

The shopping, school and trade fair city remains attractive as a place to live. From the beginning of 2022 to the beginning of this year, the number of inhabitants increased by 1178 main residences to 64,579. As the magistrate announced in a broadcast, the number of secondary residences also increased: from 4791 to 4938.

Almost 2000 children were born in the Wels Clinic last year. In the ranking for the most popular first names, Anna won the race (18 entries), 17 parents each chose Lea and Johanna. 22 of the boys were named Lukas, followed by Tobias and Matthias (17 each). The city of Wels obtains the data from the central civil status register of the Ministry of the Interior. All children who are born in Wels are recorded, regardless of their main place of residence.

2022 was also a popular year for getting married in Wels. 341 couples dared and said “yes”.

More weddings than before Corona

This even exceeded the number of 2019, the year before Corona (335 weddings at the time). Spouse ages ranged from 18 to 75, with the largest age difference between spouses being 37 years. The number of registered partnerships also increased from 2021 to 2022, from 15 to 20. The age range here was 26 to 82 years, the maximum age difference was 20 years.

There was a significant increase in the number of people leaving the church (including Wels-Land), from 1265 cases to 1624 in 2022.

The number of deaths in the previous year was 824, up by 16.
