Some of these “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAP) would have “unusual flight characteristics or performance” and required further analysis, the Pentagon said on Thursday (local time). Specifically, it is about 171 newly evaluated sightings.
That’s according to a new Pentagon report to Congress, which includes 247 new sightings since March 2021. In addition, 119 other events that had not previously been evaluated were analyzed.
Around 200 reports were rated as “unremarkable”, the report said. They can possibly be traced back to common airborne objects – such as drones, balloons and debris like plastic bags. In June 2021, the US secret services had submitted a report on UAP for the first time. This showed that there were no explanations for around 140 celestial phenomena from the past two decades. In December, the Pentagon said it had found no evidence of extraterrestrial life ahead of the release of the new report.
However, reports of unexplained celestial phenomena have increased, the report said. However, some UAP incidents could be due to sensor irregularities or equipment failures. Last summer, House Counterintelligence Subcommittee Chairman André Carson said, “EAPs are inexplicable, that’s true. But they’re real. They need to be investigated.” It was the first hearing in Congress in decades.
