The robbery happened on Friday evening near the main entrance to the Graz Opera. The 67-year-old woman from Vienna fell trying to keep her handbag and injured the back of her head. The perpetrator fled with his loot in the direction of the city park. Three eyewitnesses – two teenagers and a 30-year-old man – pursued the robber. This one dropped his prey while fleeing. One of the witnesses informed the police and helped with the immediately initiated search with his information. The perpetrator – a 36-year-old Hungarian from the Graz-Surroundings district – was eventually caught by a police patrol in the vicinity of the opera house and arrested.
The victim was treated on the spot by the opera doctor on duty and then taken to Graz Regional Hospital. The police investigations are still ongoing.
