The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on a narrow, little-used pedestrian and cycle path near the city center, police reported on Saturday. The stranger pulled the student from behind to the ground, threatened her with a knife and made death threats.
The girl reached for the knife as a defensive reaction. She sustained lacerations on the palms of her hands. The perpetrator then let go of his victim and fled on foot in the direction of the city center. The 14-year-old was treated as an outpatient at the Mistelbach State Clinic.
According to the police, there was a similar incident in Mistelbach just 15 minutes before the student was attacked. A man reared up in front of a 21-year-old woman and silently pulled a balaclava over his face. When the front door of a nearby residential building was opened, the man walked on without having spoken a word.
Whether it is the same man is the subject of the investigation, according to the police. The man who attacked and injured the girl is described as 180cm tall and of average build. He is said to have worn a dark, quilted jacket and gray sweatpants and spoke High German. The victim could not say whether the perpetrator was masked because she did not see him from the front.
