Gut-Behrami won second Super-G in St. Anton

The Swiss prevailed on Sunday in the second Super-G this weekend at the Arlberg by 0.15 seconds ahead of Italy’s Federica Brignone and +0.19 ahead of her compatriot Marta Bassino. As on the day before, Austria was in fifth place, Ramona Siebenhofer was 0.79 seconds behind Gut-Behrami. Cornelia Hütter dropped out with an intermediate best time.

Nicole Schmidhofer (+1.21) was ninth after 45 starters and was on course for her second top ten result of the season. Mirjam Puchner (+1.94), Ricarda Haaser (+1.96), Stephanie Venier (+2.20) were the best of the other Austrians in places between 16 and 20. Nina Ortlieb (+3.48) didn’t catch anyone good day. Like Hütter, Tamara Tippler was eliminated due to a goal error.

Siebenhofer was happy to have hit the key points better this time. “It was once again better and more aggressive skiing. There was more security again,” said the all-rounder in the team, who recently fell short of her expectations, especially in giant slalom. “It goes this way and that very quickly, so you just have to keep at it. I take whatever positive energies and steps I can get.” Schmidhofer was also happy: “It was a tough road, the fact that one green at the finish was the greatest reward for me today, even if not that many had finished.”

The anger outweighed the anger at Hütter. The Styrian was in the upper section with a clear interim best time, was then briefly lifted by a wave and was no longer able to make enough direction for the next goal. “It pushed me so much. It was really cool to drive and I noticed that I’m getting faster and faster. I wanted to be in motion a little earlier, but it was already there because I got there faster than I thought,” she explained . “A silly mistake, that annoys me madly.”

Gut-Behrami made a leap forward with a not error-free, but above all safe downhill run, the day before she was third behind Brignone and Joana Hählen. On Sunday she won ahead of three Italians, as fourth place went to Elena Curtoni. She lost her lead in the Discipline World Cup to Brignone, second is Gut-Behrami, who celebrated her 36th World Cup victory.
