According to reports from Zambia, the 25-year-old felt unwell on Sunday morning and was taken to a hospital in the capital, Lusaka. As the public broadcaster ZNBC wrote on its website, his condition is now stable. Mwepu ended his professional career last October.
The midfielder had to hang up his boots after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition. Most recently, Mwepu played for Brighton in the English Premier League. The club signed the Zambian team player in July 2021 for a reported 23 million euros from Salzburg. He played a total of 119 games for the “Bulls” and won four championship titles and three cup trophies.
