The strike is called to demand “the resignation of Dina Boluarte and of the Parliament leaders“. According to the latest survey by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (Iep), published yesterday, the 71% of those interviewed consider negative the government of Dina Boluarte and the 88% disapprove of Parliament’s conduct.

Call for national strike

The strike was announced when social movements that until now have encouraged the protests in the south of the country decided to transfer tens of thousands of protesters to Lima for the second edition of the “Los Cuatro Suyos” march. The demonstrators demand, in addition to the resignation of Boluarte, the dissolution of Parliament, immediate early elections and the Release of former President Pedro Castillo.

Despite of state of emergency decreed by the government over the weekend in various areas of southern Peru, many thousands of protesters have decided to move to Lima in the next few hours to continue with the anti-government protest and organize a march called “de los Cuatro Suyos”.

More and more deaths and social tension

El Sutran, the state body that monitors road traffic in Peru, confirmed yesterday that more than 100 blocks organized by demonstrators were active on numerous communication routes in a dozen regions of southern Peru. Given the decision of the government of President Dina Boluarte to respond only with the deployment of security forces to the demands of the social and ethnic movements (aymara and quechua), Lima will once again be the center of popular mobilization.

Groups of people demonstrated in the capital on Saturday and yesterday, but in the coming days it is expected that at least 50,000 people from various regions participate in the second edition of the “de los Cuatro Suyos” march.
