Due to his good placements in the student league tournaments, it has already become apparent that Mario Edlbauer could soon win a tournament. To the delight of the organizers, this was the case at the Hofkirchner tournament, which the young chess talent of SV Hofkirchen won. With a record number of participants – namely 41 young chess players – the 3rd student league tournament took place in the Greek restaurant Samos at the weekend. Mayor Josef Gadermeier welcomed the young thinkers and at the end also carried out the award ceremony.
The game was played in two groups: U8 and U10 as well as U12 and U14. “The tournament was characterized by fairness and sporting discipline,” said the organizers. All four age groups were evaluated separately. Astrit Lezi from Ried and Michael Daxner from Frankenburg occupied the other podium places in the U14 classification behind the Hofkirchner day winner Mario Edlbauer. The youngest participant in the tournament, five-year-old Karl Doppelbauer, also received a trophy.
