Mafioso Messina Denaro’s hideout found

The hideout was near the western Sicilian town of Trapani, a Cosa Nostra stronghold, and was searched throughout the night, the carabinieri said. The house of the boss, wanted for 30 years, was in the village of Campobello di Mazara. Palermo’s deputy public prosecutor Paolo Guido, who has been investigating the former Cosa Nostra refugee for years, was personally present at the search.

The mafioso and Italy’s most wanted criminal was arrested on Monday in a private clinic in Palermo, where he was being treated for a colon tumor. The mafia boss is charged with at least 50 murders. The 60-year-old is said to have committed the first at the age of 18.
