It was the scene when tennis superstar Rafael Nadal returned to the Grand Slam: Nadal, known for his order, was briefly perplexed in the first sentence. On the way to his bench he suddenly missed one of his clubs. Frantically he searched for new material in his pocket, slowly getting nervous. He then accused the referee of a ball boy for stealing the racket.
“The ball boy, the ball boy, took my racket,” the Mallorcan raged briefly. Only after a short break was Nadal able to continue with new material and laughed at the referee, who had already picked up the phone.

But did a ball boy really brazenly steal the racket? In fact, the racquet was mistaken for another, broken one. They are sent to the stringer during the match so that there are always enough fresh racquets available. “The situation didn’t distract me from the game, it was rather very funny. Normally I always have the number of rackets in my head, but one was gone,” Nadal told Eurosport after the game.
However, the racket whirl should not endanger the Spaniard’s first win of the new year: Nadal struggled on Monday at the Australian Open against the British Jack Draper to a 7: 5, 2: 6, 6: 4, 6 :1 success. The Spanish defending champion had to play 3:41 hours against number 38 in the world.
