Linzers smoke less and hike more

20,000 Linzers aged 15 and over were invited in autumn to take part in the survey. Exactly 2122 actually filled out the online questionnaire. Due to the two hard Corona years, City Councilor for Health Michael Raml (FP) preferred the survey. The results are at least partly surprising. Three out of four respondents felt their state of health to be good or even very good. 77 percent are also very satisfied with health care. However, doctors are becoming increasingly difficult to reach. The shortage of doctors is not without effect. 87 percent are satisfied with the general practitioners. In the 2018 survey, it was still 94 percent, and in 2012 it was even 97 percent. Raml is therefore calling for the area to be made more attractive and strengthened – also in order to relieve the hospitals.

Smoking is out

Other trends in the health survey: Mental illnesses such as depression continue to increase. Postural problems, especially back and lower back pain as well as pain in the neck and shoulder area, take second place after allergies. It is positive that fewer and fewer Linzers state that they smoke. 76.4 percent have never smoked or quit.

Sports activities decrease slightly

Mixed results are from the sport. Almost 70 percent are satisfied with the range of sports, 60 percent do sports at least once a week, 43.3 percent several times. Compared to the surveys from 2012 and 2018, however, the value has fallen somewhat. The type of sport practiced most is hiking (53.5), but this could also be related to September, the month of the survey. Fitness training (38.2), running (30.4) and cycling (27.8) are also very popular. The desire for more outdoor offerings, such as generally accessible fitness stations in parks, was mentioned most frequently. Sports consultant, Deputy Mayor Karin Hörzing (SP) has therefore also announced that she wants to expand the offer.

Club sport back to pre-corona level

Good news comes from sports clubs. According to health and sports director Dietmar Nemeth, club sport is back to the level it was in the years before Corona. After all, 24 percent of those surveyed are members of a club, 18 percent of whom are also active.
