Snowy road: Four injured in an accident in Salzburg

On the Thalgauegg road between Thalgau and Fuschl (Flachgau), a car came off the road shortly before 6 a.m. in the snow, fell over an embankment, crashed into a tree and remained on the roof. One inmate was seriously injured and three others were slightly injured, the Red Cross informed.

Even before midnight, a traffic accident in Pingzau caused the Salzach Valley Road between Zell am See and St. Johann im Pongau to be closed for almost two hours. At Taxenbach, a semi-trailer skidded on the snow-covered road and turned across the entire road. The trailer jutted out over the embankment on either side of the road. The volunteer fire brigade first had to request a special vehicle for the rescue. There were no injuries in the accident.

Disabilities in Carinthia

Snowfall again caused disabilities in Carinthia on Thursday night. Even if the situation was much more relaxed than on Monday morning, there were still power outages, which briefly affected several 100 households, as well as traffic accidents. Chains were compulsory on several higher roads, such as on the Loiblpass (B91), on the Katschberg Straße (B99) or on the Nassfeld Straße (B90).

“Too cold” for this time of year – but where is the snow?

In the early hours of the morning, a 51-year-old Spanish truck driver skidded on the southern autobahn (A2) in the municipality of Finkenstein (Villach-Land district) in the direction of Vienna because of the snow-covered road. The semi-trailer broke through the guard rail and fell about 50 meters over an embankment onto a municipal road below. The driver was injured and taken to the Villach state hospital with the ambulance, and the semi-trailer was severely damaged, the police said.

Fire brigades reported further truck rescues, such as on the A2 near Südrast or on the B111 at the Gailitz substation. During the night, trucks repeatedly got stuck on the southern autobahn on the border between Carinthia and Styria. The Villach Alpine Road was also closed, the municipality of Villach announced, several trees had fallen on the road.
