Breeding cattle are currently in high demand abroad, price increases at auction

According to the Simmental Breeding Association FIH, the latest breeding cattle auction in Ried went exceptionally well. There have been significant price increases in all categories, which are primarily due to the brisk demand for export. The offered herdbook animals were all sold.

Through the insemination station in Hohenzell, a genetically homozygous polled “Ingmar son” was acquired from the Höllinger farm in Vichtenstein for use in insemination. geneticAustria bought some bulls for export to Northern Ireland. Without exception, “first cows” were purchased by buyers from the region. The Danner company from Tarsdorf achieved the highest price for a high-performance “world power daughter”.

Currently high price level

The increase in the average price for young cows to 2400 euros net came as a surprise. According to the FIH, an even bigger surprise was the increase in prices for the pregnant heifers. An average price of 2514 euros net for 132 sold animals has not been reached for a long time. Many animals were bought for export to Algeria. The disadvantage of this extremely high price level is that there is a risk that customers from other countries such as Switzerland, Spain or Ireland cannot be supplied.

How extraordinary the latest breeding cattle auction was is shown by the fact that of almost 160 breeding cattle sold, only three animals achieved a price of less than 2000 euros, according to the association.

The next breeding cattle auction in Ried will take place on Shrove Tuesday, February 21st – it will be the 900th auction.

500 calves changed hands at the most recent FIH calf auction. The large offer was used by fatteners from the region, but also by companies. According to the FIH, the average prices were quite satisfactory for an auction in January.
