The Canadian Todd Brooker had a bad fall in 1987 entering the finish slope. Miraculously, he only suffered a knee injury, a broken nose and a concussion. At the end of the season he ended his career.
In 1989 it hit me Brian Stemmle also a Canadian. He suffered life-threatening injuries when he fell and was even in intensive care afterwards. After another fall in Kitzbühel a few years later, he also ended his career.
In 1995, one of the most spectacular falls happened on the Streif. The Italian Pietro Vitalini fell on the edge of the local mountain and was then thrown over the safety net. Miraculously, he was unharmed.
In 2008, the American fell Scott Macartney difficult when jumping to the finish line. Because of a craniocerebral trauma, he had to be put into an artificial coma. Only 9 months later did he make his comeback.
Just a year later crashed Daniel Albert also at the target jump. The Swiss was then in an artificial coma and it took around 22 months before he could take part in World Cup races again.
In 2011 the Austrian had to Hans Grugger end his career after a bad fall in the mousetrap. He was in mortal danger after his crash and suffered serious head injuries. The South Tyrolean also fell in 2011 Siegmar Klotz heavy in the traverse on the local mountain and has to be transported away with the rescue helicopter. Luckily he only broke his hand and is now active as a ski crosser.
2013 remained Peter Fill from Italy was unhurt in his fall, but his backflip in Kitzbühel will remain legendary for all time.
The descent in 2016 turned into a crash orgy. Exactly at the same place, just before the local mountain, it caught one after the other Georg Streitberger, Hannes Reichelt and Aksel Lund Svindal. Streitberger and Svindal suffered a cruciate ligament tear in their right knee, and the season was over for both of them.
